We were on a cruise and in Dublin for one day. We decided to walk around on our own and visit several places near Grafton Street before treating ourselves to an afternoon tea. We started off walking to see the Irish Famine Statues. They commemorate the million plus people that died from the Great Potato Famine in the mid 19th century and also the other million people that left Ireland as refugees. The expressions in their faces was so very sad that we chose not to smile when taking pictures with them. No smile with the Great Famine Statues From here we headed towards Grafton Street and on the way we tried some really outstanding ice cream at Murphy's Ice Cream followed by some macaroons and a latte at Laduree a French pastry shop, YUM! The Dingle Sea Salt & Crunchy Caramel, incredibly YUM Really YUM! After some shopping we made our way over to the Westbury Hotel for our afternoon Tea. This was a really nice way to treat ourselves, after all we deserve it. Some interesting sights on Grafton Street Our tea started with a glass of champagne After this wonderful tea we headed back to Merrion Square to meet our shuttle bus to go back to our ship. Along the way we passed through Fitzwilliam Square. It was the last and smallest of 5 Georgian Squares built in Dublin. The series of row houses is famous for the variety of colors the front doors are painted.
