Probably the most famous town on Santorini, Oia lies on the Northwestern tip of the island. The town is positioned on top of a massive cliff overlooking the Caldera and presents incredible views. Oia is likely best known for the beautiful sunsets presented there every day of the year. By the way Oia is actually pronounced "E-a" Thousands of people & many boats line up to view the sunset Oia is a traditional Cycladic village with white washed houses built right into the side of the cliffs. There are narrow pedestrian streets with an ample supply of shops, restaurants, cafe's and taverna's. You also find many Orthodox churches with the traditional blue dome roofs. With the exception of the Main Street almost all of the pedestrian streets and walkways are on steep angles and Oia has an endless supply of steps. Anyone with bad knee's or hip's should think twice about exploring Oia. Almost any view on Oia is like looking at a postcard The morning we were exploring Oia it was very crowded. Along with the thousands of tourists staying on Santorini there were two cruise ships in port for the day. When we got there I was thinking, we're never going to find a parking spot. Almost the moment I was thinking that a spot opened up literally right in front of us. Somebody was looking down from heaven and smiling on us, maybe the Greek God Zeus, maybe it was Inshallah or our parents were looking down and created the spot for us. Anyway we parked and began making our way through the extreme number's of tourists. Fortunately most of the people from the cruise ships left after an hour or so but we just persevered and eventually found the crowds thinning as we explored further from the center of town. After several hours of exploring we had lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Caldera called Floga's. We actually ate there 4 years ago on our last visit to Santorini. Everything was quite YUM! The real post card shot in Oia, the Famous 3 Blue Domes This is the most famous image from Santorini, the 3 Blue Dome's in Oia. You'll see this image on more post cards, plates, trays, practically any type of souvenir. A few parting shots of the sunset we viewed the next night in Oia Santorini is always listed as one of the top places in the world to visit. With all it has to offer its no wonder Oia is the most popular place to visit on Santorini.
