We were staying in probably one of the most romantic places in the world, Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Surrounded by beautiful water and picturesque little towns we decide to go for a 3 and 1/2 to 4 hour hike up on a mountain. The name alone, Path of the Gods was enough to peak our interest along with the incredible views this path promised. We began our adventure in the hill town of Bomerano which is the recommended place to start. Being inexperienced hikers we decided to hire a guide to lead us and make sure we took the correct turns when necessary. The path is marked with white and red signs but I could see missing one or two along the way. We got an early morning start to beat not only the heat but also the crowds. The sky was clear and the air was so pure it actually smelled fresh and clean. I don't believe I've ever breathed in air this pure before. It was almost intoxicating. The official starting point of the Path of the Gods A little dwelling we saw along the path The view of the Gulf of Salerno from about 1800 feet above sea level Starting in Bomerano and heading back towards Positano was suppose to be the easier way as it was downhill most of the way. We actually found it more challenging than we had thought. We went down, then up, then down, then up, it was kind of a recurring theme along with loose and unstable rocks all along the route. Don't get me wrong we enjoyed the hike; it was very exhilarating and the views were as the brochure's promised, beautiful and breath taking. Other hikers we saw along the way A quick stop for some water and of course a photo op The path gets kind of narrow at certain points We passed a number of remains of buildings like this one Spectacular views Not too far from civilization The town of Nocelle in sight, where the hike ends We passed several herds of goats Positano off in the distance After reaching Nocelle and finishing the path we continued on to the little town of Motepertuso to have lunch before taking a bus back to Positano. I was glad we chose to hire a guide as she made us feel much more comfortable and confident throughout our hike. This hike was very worth while despite being a bit challenging for a pair of almost senior citizens.
