We arrived in Bangkok in the early afternoon and made our way to our hotel, the Shangri-La. It's located right on the Chao Phraya River, a really central and great location. The city was packed with people celebrating the Chinese New Year so of course traffic was crazy all the way to the hotel. Our tour manager Ray walked us and a number of people from our group to a grocery market around the corner from the hotel. I ran out of mouthwash in Chiang Mai. I bought a small bottle and noticed something about the bottle I haven't seen for probably 30 years or so. It was a plastic bottle but the cap was a regular screw off cap, no safety cap just a plain screw off cap. I guess there is no consumer product safety commission in Thailand. There was a few other interesting things we saw. Raw chickens complete with heads for sale and no refrigeration We saw many street vendors like this one on the way back to the hotel Our room faced the river and being on the 10th floor the view was very nice. The view from our balcony Our hotel had an afternoon snack buffet which was a nice perk to the hotel. We had a little bite before heading to the river for our late afternoon canal tour. The hotels afternoon included buffet After a nice afternoon snack we all walked down to the water and got on board the boat for our canal tour. The river was very busy with plenty of boats going up and down stream. It was a little choppy but not too bad. With the scenery on both sides of the river it kind of reminded me of the Bosphorus river in Istanbul Turkey. It was very nice as the sun was starting to go down which made for really nice photo op's. A beautiful sunset picture from our tour boat Another great sunset shot over the river Beautiful scenery We stopped in this narrow channel to feed these fish some break Beautiful decorations on these buildings We transferred to this dinner boat Our dinner Our dinner cruise Lots of photo Op's for the Happy Couple The Happy Couple with a beautiful bridge in the background Enjoying our cruise A party boat going by This beautiful temple all lit up at night The city lit up too After a few hours of this wonderful cruising we disembarked right at our hotel. We walked around the outside a little looking at the river and city sights before turning in for the night.
Next time we take a tour of the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple
